The road to Platform Advisory Partners…
I saw a lot of wealth destruction during the GFC period, while working in London and then Luxembourg, managing a legacy €250m high-yield debt portfolio. At the time, I felt powerless as the lender, with no ability to influence the outcome, so I was determined to find a role that positioned me closer to the coal face. On my return to Australia, I joined EM Advisory and really enjoyed working with founders and solving business and transactional challenges. Working with technology and high growth companies got Tom and I thinking that we should embark on our own journey, one that we hoped to be culturally aligned to the founders we wished to help.
Why advisory…
I’m an intellectually curious person, so the ability to concurrently work on multiple projects across multiple industries was very enticing. Our advisory work enables us to partner with founders and their teams during highly challenging periods when they are targeting potentially life changing milestones. It’s work that I find incredibly rewarding and often results in the building of lifelong relationships. The hardest part of a successful project is no longer speaking to clients daily, having spent months in the trenches with them.
The weekends are for…
Spending time with my wife and my young daughter and trying to keep fit. In my “former life” I enjoyed tennis, bike riding and running as well as sipping a negroni with friends at one of Melbourne’s north-side bars.
